It’s December!! We all know what this month means. It is the month of Christmas!!
Christmas has always been my favourite season. As far back as I can remember, Christmas has always been a day when everyone in my family would spend together. We may not have met up as often but Christmas was always a day everyone made the effort to spend together. This is the reason why until this day Christmas makes me so happy as I have it connected to so many great memories and each Christmas I want to be able to create more memories.
I tend to go a bit overboard when it comes to decorations but that is because I want to make the most out of it and make my home to feel as Chrismassy as possible for that short period. I am one of those people who starts thinking about Christmas from the end of August. Okay, to be honest I am always thinking about it but that is when I start talking about it to others as any time before that seems too soon.
Gone are the days when we would go “out-out” on Christmas Eve. You will now find me at home in my pyjamas watching Christmas movies, which if I am being honest here is the best night in EVER. Is this only me? Oh well..
Ever since I have moved into my own home with Peter I have started to create little traditions. Such as when decorating the tree, we have to do it together while listening to Christmas music. While decorating the tree we usually end up disagreeing on what goes where, so this part usually takes some time until we can reach an agreement. Is this a normal thing? Do you also have the same issue? Because we have this problem every year and I don’t think it will ever be resolved – haha. I also use Christmas themed bed covers and toilet seat covers. So each room feels like Christmas.
Another favourite during this time are candles. I am obsessed with candles all year around. There is something about the Christmas scented candles that make them my favourite. They remind me of coziness and being wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa with a hot chocolate.
Let’s be honest, this isn’t all fun and games. There is a lot of stress during this period – from buying the presents to making Christmas dinner. To avoid the stress and anything that will prevent 100% joy during this period I prepare a list. (I write lists for everything – but that is because lists are so handy and make life so much easier). I have a Christmas Present List where I make a list of what I want to buy each person, including my budget.
On this list I have the option to select if I have bought it and if I have wrapped it. That way I make sure that I haven’t forgotten anyone and avoid running around the last minute to get a present. It is also a great way to stay within your budget and not go overboard, as it is easy to spend so much without realising it. If you would like me to send you the template leave a comment below and I will get in contact with you and send it across. The great thing about this template is that if you think of a great gift idea throughout the year you can add it on the list so you don’t forget it when the time comes.
Another tradition we have during December is we try to watch as many Christmas movies as we can. We have a list (yes, I know.. another list) of all our favourite Christmas movies so we do not forget one. As it is “unacceptable” to watch a Christmas movie any other time of the year, we try to cram as many as we can during this month. And there are LOADS of movies. Let me know in the comments below what your favourite Christmas movie is.
I hope my blog has put you in the spirit of Christmas as much as I am. Please feel free to let me know what traditions you have during this time as I am interested to know.
